Determined Maiden Win For Wexford Miss At Kembla
Wexford Miss was able to rid her maiden status at Kembla Grange on Saturday when taking out the fillies and mares 1400m maiden. It was a credible effort for the four year old mare, who had to carry the top weight of 59 kilos on the Heavy 8 surface. In a race that was decimated by scratchings, Wexford Miss was sent out as the very short priced favourite, jumping at $1.20 off the back of a last start 4th on the Kensington track.

She settled at the rear of the field, no more than 5 lengths off the leader in a slowly run race. The sprint went on at the 400m and Wexford Miss loomed large down the outside. She was challenged over the concluding stages by the locally trained Audenzia (Kerry Parker) who gave a good kick but was nosed out, giving Wexford Miss a 0.1L victory.

"That should give her plenty of confidence today"  jockey Sam Clipperton told connections after the win. "She had to pick up under the big weight on the heavy track so there was good merit to the win."

Wexford Miss was purchased via a private sale in 2022 from Ireland through agent Billy Jackson Stops. She peaked Champion Director Jason Abrahams's interest with her two brothers both performing well in the Sydney metropolitan area at the time. Her full-brother Waterford (Awtaad) was subsequently placed in four stakes races and is now being set for the $750k Little Dance on Melbourne Cup Day.  Her half-brother Wicklow (Twilight Son) subsequently won the Listed Wagga Gold Cup.
