Pizarro Returns To Winning Form

A long break and move north proved a winning formula for Pizarro when he returned to the races at Ipswich on Wednesday. The 5YO All Too Hard gelding was transferred to the Tony Gollan stable at the beginning of the year after an unplaced preparation in Sydney during the spring.

He was very well placed in a set weights class 3 on Wednesday over the 1200m, warranting his $1.60 starting price. He was coming off a trial win at Deagon a fortnight prior and leading Queensland jockey James Orman, who partnered him in the trial was full of confidence in running, despite the rail out +9m.

Pizarro jumped on terms with the field from barrier 6 and settled mid-field off a solid tempo. He came off the bridle at the 500m when Orman put him in to the race and he showed good tenacity under the 60kg to attack the line, defeating his rivals by half a length. It was a well deserved victory for Pizarro who had been out of the winners circle for 620 days.

"He will be better on the bigger tracks- you don't get much tighter than Ipswich with the rail out" Tony Gollan commented after the win "He's done a good job- he didn't win by a big margin but the confidence out of that will do him the world of good"
