Zabraisve was sourced by John O’Shea, Jason Abrahams and purchaser Storm Thoroughbreds at the 2009 New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale for NZ$80,000. Following the collapse of Storm Thoroughbreds, Champion Thoroughbreds purchased Zabrasive and a number of other horses as their first crop of racehorses to be raced in the Champion Thoroughbreds colours.

Zabrasive kicked off his career as a three-year-old at the provincials, as per many good staying prospects. He first ran second over 1400m before winning his maiden over 1600m at Kembla Grange. He then ran third in town over 1600m before winning his second race when first-up at Wyong following a spell.

Following his second win, Zabrasive was to make his debut in stakes company and did so admirably with a fourth in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas behind Shoot Out, Viking Legend and Captain Sonador. His next task was the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas in which he won in a photo finish with an amazing show of heart, beating Rock Classic and Run for Naara.

Following the win he was sent out in the Group 1 Australian Derby to run fourth behind Shoot Out, Descerado and Monaco Consul (a High Chaparral trifecta). Earning a spell for himself following a teriffic preparation, Zabrasive was brought back for the Group 2 Memsie Stakes in which he ran 5th behind So You Think and co he followed that on with a 10th in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes and a midfield finish in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes in a strong year for stayers.

Following his third preparation Zabrasive suffered a tendon injury in which he failed to return to racing from, which was exceedingly disappointing for his connections, however he did get to show his ability and was rewarded with a Group 1 win, not to mention just under $450,000 in prizemoney earnings for his connections.

Zabrasive is now living out his days in a big grassy paddock being ridden every so often by a woman who adores him.
