Southern Lad Revs Up For Ramornie at Grafton

Southern Lad (Ocean Park) rounded out his gallops this morning in preparation for next week's Listed Ramornie Stakes at Grafton leaving trainer John O'Shea with a grin.

It has been a preparation of near misses for the 5yo gelding and the stable are hoping Wednesday week will be the day that they can balance the ledger for his owners and for his supporters.

"He's been hitting the cross bar all preparation, and if it hasn't been bad gates, it's been heavy tracks, or Gr1 quality opposition. We are hoping to get a nice draw next week, a fair track, and even luck. I really think that's all he needs, he's as genuine as they come and such a great horse for the stable. We are as proud as punch of him and he thoroughly deserves a breakthrough win this prep. I don't think he's missed a place this prep and he will have his moment in the sun I'm sure" John O'Shea commented.

This morning he breezed up well and stopped the clock in impressive fashion on the poly. He will have one more breeze up Saturday to round out his training program before his main target race for the preparation at Grafton. "He didn't blow a candle out this morning so he's ready to rumble and he looks to now be at his peak. We have trained him to reach this point so that he would be spot on next week and I think we have him where we want him" O'Shea stated. "He hasn't been seen to his best on the heavy ground and the replays show that. He gets into the straight and can't lengthen stride on the heavy ground. He loves it a bit soft but the heavy has his measure. In typical Southern Lad style though he still has a good dig and has been picking up cheques for his owners the whole time. How can you not enjoy a horse like him" O'Shea beamed.

Good luck for the next 8 days and hopefully his ownership group can cheer him on for the crescendo of his preparation!
