Southern Lad Heads North On Boxing Day

Stable stalwart Southern Lad will make the journey north for the Listed Falvelon at Doomben on Boxing Day. The 7YO son of Ocean Park will tackle the 1200m handicap event which has attracted a field of 14 quality runners. The lad will need to contest with the tricky draw of barrier 11 around the Doomben circuit but will have the services of top jockey Tommy Berry in the saddle which connections are hoping will help offset the poor draw.

Southern Lad will carry 57.5kg in Sunday's race, a half a kilo drop from his last start where he finished a gallant 3rd in the Listed Razor Sharp. He didn't have an abundance of luck when boxed in up the straight and it was a honest effort under the circumstances.

Sunday's field is headlined by top weights Beau Rossa and Zoustyle who look the hardest to beat. Visiting Southern Australian galloper Beau Rossa has drawn barrier 8 and will carry 60kg. He was runner-up in the Group 1 Memsie in August behind Behemoth, beaten just 0.2L, Local galloper Zoustyle, who will also carry 60kg will be out to maintain his impressive record. He's had 13 starts for 9 wins and 1 minor placing. He was a dominant winner of the Group 3 George Moore Stakes on December 4th at Doomben over 1200m.

If Southern Lad can run in the top 4, he'll crack the $700k total career prizemoney mark.

Best of luck to his connections!
