Northbound Lad Tackles Ramornie

Southern Lad is out to crack the half a million dollar mark in prize money earnings when he lines up in the Listed Ramornie Handicap at Grafton on Wednesday. Currently sitting on $490,000, a podium finish will see him reach the prize money milestone at career start number 32.

Drawn perfectly in barrier 4 and with the prospects of a rain affected track, Southern Lad looks well placed to continue on his consistent ways in an open field. He finished an unlucky 5th in the race last year when drawing wide and forced to get too far back from the poor draw negating his finish when having to make a long sustained run to be beaten under 2 lengths.

He heads into Wednesday's feature race with an excellent 2nd placing in the Listed Hinkler Handicap at Eagle Farm a month ago. The form has since stacked up with the third place getter Away Game winning the Group 3 Healy Stakes last week.

The Ramornie presents with several chances including the Mark Newnham strained Blazing Miss who has notched up two stakes placings this preparation and has drawn well in barrier 3. The form around Axe is strong after he finished 3rd two starts ago in the Group 3 BRC Sprint where he was in a photo finish with Tofane who went on to win two Group 1 races. Albeit he will need to contend with the visitors draw of 20. The Tony Gollan trained Outback Barbie has the class edge and drops back dramatically in grade after contesting in the Group 1 Stradbroke last start although she's drawn a little awkward in barrier 13.

Best of luck to the Lad's connections- after four stakes placings it would be incredibly deserving to see him win a Listed race!
