Newsreader Heads To Rosehill Saturday

Two year old filly Newsreader (Press Statement) heads to the Yarraman Park Woodlands Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill this Saturday and she has been installed as the third favourite at $5 by the TAB with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.

Newsreader debuted a fortnight ago at Randwick on the Kensington track where she ran an enormous race starting at $16. She came from well back in a strong field to be beaten only half a length. The winner of the race that day Macroura, is favourite for this weekend. Newsreader will meet her 1.5kg better off at the weights and will also have improved in fitness levels having just had the one 740m trial leading into her debut performance.

Jockey Brenton Avdulla rode Newreader on her debut and also managed to ride her in trackwork this week and believes she has come on nicely from her first up effort but also expects she will improve further in time "She gives me a good feel and although she is still working it out, she has definitely come on since her debut run" Advulla noted this week.

John O'Shea the trainer was also upbeat about the daughter of Press Statement "She will hopefully get a nice run from the gate and if that happens I think she is right in it on Saturday. I have won this race before with a smart filly and at the same stage I could not say this filly isn't as good as the filly that I won the race with. She is genuine in her work and has come through the run in good order so I expect a bold showing this weekend".

Yarraman Park Stud are sponsoring the event and it would be a nice touch if a filly who was sold through their draft was capable of winning the race with their name on it.

Good luck to her owners this weekend as she has a throw at the stumps of gaining some black type in a race that has 7 last start winners in a field of 11.
