Langley Onto Bigger And Better Things After Maiden Win


Three year old Redoute's Choice colt Langley rid his maiden status in fine fashion at Kembla Grange on Sunday in the Metro & Provincial Maiden Handicap over 1500m. At just his third start, Langley settled beautifully for Brenton Avdulla behind the leaders and cruised around the home turn to let down and win by 2 lengths. "I knew when Blake Shinn's horse (Cuba) was slow away that we were in a good position, I probably would of liked something to chase for a bit longer because he did want to look around at the 100m but it was a good effort and he's a nice horse".

Langley gave trainer John O'Shea his second winner since opening his stable last month from just 7 runners. "He's a nice progressive horse who I think will make a nice stayer." "To be fair, he's still learning but it was good to see him winning like that today and he'll make his presence felt in nicer races".

John will now likely aim Langley for the Listed Dulcify Handicap over 1600m at Randwick on September 30th for the 3 year olds. John always felt that the Randwick mile would be ideal for Langley and this is the logical race at the perfect time.

Langley was purchased from the Melbourne Premier Sale for $225,000 from the Arrowfield Stud Draft and is raced by Champion Thoroughbreds, Arrowfield Pastoral Pty Ltd, Nearco Stud Ltd, Grandlodge Racing Pty Ltd and Sedgewyn Syndicate. He is out of the Empire Maker mare Panorama Ridge (USA) who has also produced stakes winning New Zealand filly Sassy 'n' Smart (Smart Missile). Panorama Ridge is currently in foal to Not A Single Doubt.

The last Day of the Karaka Book 1 sale proved the busiest for Champion Thoroughbreds and John O'Shea. Lot 553 was the first to join the team, a stunning filly by first season sire Sacred Falls out of the Savabeel mare Savasong.
