King Of Spades Digs Deep On Debut

King Of Spades had to overcome testing conditions to notch up a debut win at Nowra on Monday. The 2YO son of Xtravagant found himself in a four horse field for the 1200m Colts and Geldings maiden event on a Heavy 9 surface. He settled at the rear of the field from barrier 2 and settled well throughout the run. He balanced up around the home turn and loomed up to battle out the finish with the Jean Dubois trained Charlemagne who had race experience on side. King Of Spades showed great determination and a will to win getting the bob in on the finish line. The third placegetter finished some 7.9 lengths behind.

"It was a really brave effort to win today, he's still a big baby. He travelled up beautifully in behind them, got a bit lost up the running but hit the line strong" commented jockey Alysha Collett after the victory.

King Of Spades was purchased from the 2020 Inglis Classic Highway session for just $30,000 from the Newhaven Park Stud Draft. He is the first foal out of Lawman mare Believer who is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner and Group 1 placegetter Wind Chimes. The future is bright for this flashy black gelding who will no doubt get better as he gets out in distance.

Congratulations to his owners Mrs S A Schumak, Mr M Schumak, Mr G C Green, Mr M W Finemore, Mrs M M Bailey, Mr D H Long, Mrs B A Leonard, Mr B M Leonard, Miss V Leonard, Mr W S Simpson, Mrs K R Baker, Mr P Baker, Lotave, Thug Thoroughbreds, Mperezive Racing, Hats And Heels , Mr M E J Mcintyre, Mr N R Blizard, Mr S J Brown
