Coffs Harbour Cup In Opacity's Sights

Opacity will head north for Thursday's $150k Coffs Harbour Cup which has attracted a field of 13 runners for the 1600m feature event. The 5YO son of Ocean Park will have to carry the top weight of 61kg as the highest rating horse in the field. The weight is somewhat offset with the draw of barrier 1 where he should get an economical run in a race that has good speed on paper.

He's rated the second favourite at $5.50 behind the Kris Lees trained Luncies who will carry 59.5kg. Luncies is having his third career start in Australia after being imported from England where he won four races up to 2413m. He was a winner when second-up in Australia at Hawkesbury in a BM78 over 1800m in May before having a let-up in preparation for this race.

Opacity looks well placed to be fighting out the finish. His form three starts ago when winning at Randwick in an Open Handicap over a mile was very good as was his following start when he finished fourth, only beaten 0.7L in BM88 grade over 1800m. The drop back in distance shouldn't be an issue as he's been kept fresh and well in-between runs. One of northern districts leading hoops Christian Reith will hop aboard Opacity for the first time on Thursday.

Other dangers in the race include the Michael Costa trained Willo Titto who has drawn barrier 7 and is coming off a last start win at Doomben in BM85 grade over 1615m. Muswellbrook Cup winner Itz Lily is also capable of notching another cup win if she has any luck from the wide draw.

Best of luck to Opacity's owners!

Two Good Chances Head To Scone

Champion has two runners heading to Scone's Tuesday meeting which has attracted healthy field sizes. Kicking off proceedings for the team is 3YO Winning Rupert filly SMOKESHOW. She's coming of an unlucky 6th last start at Hawkesbury in a very competitive maiden which wouldn't of looked out of place at a midweek metropolitan meeting.
