Class Prevails For Southern Lad At Wyong

4YO Ocean Park gelding Southern Lad returned to the number 1 stall at Wyong on Thursday, notching up his second career win from just three starts aided by a masterful ride by Tye Angland. Southern Lad, who was coming off two Randwick barrier trials in preparation for the first-up run over 1100m settled at the rear of the field from the widest gate of nine runners. He tracked up well into the race and Tye rode for luck, never going around any other horse in the field, where he was then able to sneak up the fence to save ground and dominate is rivals by 0.85L.

"That was perfect, the speed was on and albeit it was probably a bit short for him, we cut the corner, saved some ground and he showed the turn of foot we know he has like last prep." commented Tye Angland post-race.

Southern Lad has always shown neat ability particularly last preparation when winning first-up at Canterbury in an eye-catching last to first performance before taking a forced spell due to injury. It was incredibly rewarding for his great group of owners who has been very patient with him over the past 12 months.

A $75,000 purchase from the 2016 Inglis Easter Sale, Southern Lad is a half-brother to Champion stablemate and multiple Group 1 placed KURO. Their dam, Distinctive Lass continues to prove her weight in gold in the breeding barn, producing four runners who have all won including Kuro and stakes winner Distinctive Darci. Last year, she produced a filly by Darci Brahma (a full relation to Distinctive Darci).

Congratulations to his big group of owners, hopefully the second of many more wins for the lad!

Enamour's Lucky Shoes

Sometimes stories just like this make you smile... While chatting to his dad, Dave, young Lachlan O’Neill, stated that he was a bit down on his luck. So ever the thinker, Dave, contacted us and asked for four used horseshoes that they could give to Lachlan to top up his “Luck Account”.
