Knock Toff headed to Doomben on Wednesday looking to atone for his luckless last start and did so in fine style taking out the BRC Members Colts, Gelding and Entires Class 3 Plate. The son of Toorak Toff settled off the speed and was taken to the outside by jockey Corey Bayliss to produce a strong run and gather in his rivals to win by a head with an impressive last six hundred metre sectional time of 32.83.

Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy was thrilled to win the race for the team of owners from Champion Thoroughbreds and explained that there has been a long history between Jason Abrahams and the Guy family “I have known Jason since he was a young boy as my father trained for his father so it’s great to still have the connection between the two family’s and it’s always good to get a win when you get a new horse sent to you. Also I have to thank his previous trainer John O’Shea as the horse came up from Sydney in fantastic order and it was only a matter of him fitting in to Queensland and thankfully he has.”

Knock Toff was ridden today by Corey Bayliss who was having his second ride on the horse and having previous experience on the horse certainly showed today with the apprentice not panicking and giving the gelding a chance to wind up and find the line “things didn’t go to plan last start but today was a different story. Bryan and Daniel thought we would just settle off the speed and then it was just a matter of getting him to the outside to finish off and thankfully it all went well. He is a nice big horse with a good finish so I think there are more wins in him yet.”

Daniel Guy who trains in partnership with his father Bryan explained after the event that last start taught the connections a new way to ride the horse “When he came to us we were riding the horse for speed as he has great gate speed but last start he got knocked down out of the barriers and settled last which at the time we thought was disastrous but he finished off strongly to run a good third so today we settled him off the speed and he finished off great again so he looks to have some upside given the change of tactics.”
